BEWARE OF THIS CANKER, PRIDE

(PROVERBS 18:12) Before destruction the heart of man is haughty, and before honor is humility.

Friends lets us consider this saying; “coming events cast their shadows before them”. The wise man teaches us that us that a haughty heart is the prophetic prelude of evil. This canker is a slow poison as some would call it. It creeps in slowly and before long it is devastating .One starts good and lowly but suddenly destruction come upon such a one.

(Proverbs 11:2) when pride cometh, then cometh shame: but with the lowly is wisdom.

(Proverbs 15:33) the fear of the LORD is the instruction of wisdom; and before honor is humility.

(Proverbs 16:18) Pride goeth before destruction, and an haughty spirit before a fall

Pride is as safely the sign of destruction as the change of mercury in the weather glass is the sigh of rain.

Men who have ridden the high horse, destruction has always overtaken them. Horse depicts power. In order words power drunk men.

King David aching heart shows that there is an eclipse of a man’s glory when he gave too much attention to his greatness

(2 Samuel 24:10) And David’s heart smote him after that he had numbered the people. And David said unto the LORD, I have sinned greatly in that I have done: and now, I beseech thee, O LORD, take away the iniquity of thy servant; for I have done very foolishly.

Nebuchadnezzar the mighty builder of Babylon creeping on the earth devouring grass like oxen until his nails had grown like bird’s claws and his hair like eagles feathers.

(Dan 4:33) The same hour was the thing fulfilled upon Nebuchadnezzar: and he was driven from men, and did eat grass as oxen, and his body was wet with the dew of heaven, till his hairs were grown like eagles’ feathers, and his nails like birds’ claws. Pride made a boaster a beast. It also once made an angel the DEVIL, Lucifer.

God hates high looks and never fails to bring them down. All the arrows of God are aimed at proud hearts.

Friends is our hearts haughty this day? The heart can be very deceitful. In Jeremiah 17:9The heart is deceitful above all things, and desperately wicked: who can know it?

For pride can get into a believer’s heart as well as a sinners heart. It can delude him into dreaming that he is rich and increased in goods and hath need of nothing,

(Revelation 3:17) Because thou sayest, I am rich, and increased with goods, and have need of nothing; and knowest not that thou art wretched, and miserable, and poor, and blind, and naked:

Friends are we glorying in our graces or talents? Are we proud of ourselves looking down on others? Let us not let self-conceit overwhelmed us, it may be pulled up by the roots. Our mushroom graces will wither in the burning heat and our self-sufficiency will become as a straw in the dunghill.

Friends lets us live at the foot of the cross in deepest lowliness of the spirit, God will not forget to make us smart under his rod. Destruction will come to us oh… if we unduly exalts ourselves, a destruction of our joys and our comforts though there can be no destruction of our soul.

Wherefore He that glories let him glory in the lord (2 Corinthians 10:17)

God bless us all

Shalom.
